How to export your Garmin data

Garmin Connect gives you two ways to get your data out — a full account export, or one activity at a time. Here's how to do both.

Requesting your full account export

  1. Log in at connect.garmin.com on the web (not the mobile app).
  2. Click your username in the top-right corner and choose Account Settings.
  3. Find the "Account management" section and look for Export Your Data.
  4. Click Request Data.
  5. Garmin prepares the archive and emails you a download link — this isn't instant, so expect to wait.

The archive includes every activity you've recorded, in the format it was originally uploaded as (FIT, GPX, or TCX depending on the device and how it got there) — plus the rest of your Garmin Connect profile data.

Exporting a single activity

If you only need one workout rather than everything:

  1. Open Garmin Connect on the web and go to Activities in the left menu.
  2. Click the activity to open its full detail page (map and all — not just the list row).
  3. Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the activity page, then Export.
  4. Choose a format. If your device recorded natively in FIT, look for Export File(or "Original Format") to get that FIT file directly, rather than a converted GPX or TCX.

Why the format you pick matters

FIT carries far more than GPX or TCX ever will — see what's actually inside a FIT file and our GPX vs TCX vs FIT comparison. If you have a choice between formats, FIT is the one that keeps everything your device actually recorded — running dynamics, device-level detail, whatever your specific watch captures that a converted export wouldn't carry.

A note on Garmin's API

Garmin's developer program for live API access is partner-approval-only and not something an individual tool can plug into. That's fine here — this tool only works from files you've already exported yourself, processed entirely in your own browser. No account connection, no live sync, no data leaving your device.

Once you have the export

Drop the whole .zip, or the individual FIT/GPX/TCX files, into this tool. They get fully decoded to JSON with nothing dropped, then you pick the date range you want combined into one Markdown file ready to paste into your AI chat.
